What is Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay like as a wedding venue?

Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay is a waterfront hotel at 1633 North Bayshore Drive, Miami, FL 33132, sitting directly on Biscayne Bay between downtown Miami and the Edgewater / Arts & Entertainment District, with the MacArthur Causeway to Miami Beach a few minutes away. Two independent venue directories both list that address [1] [2].

We are flagging the discrepancy rather than picking the bigger number. Directory listings are supplied by venues and go stale; a 20,000 vs 47,594 square-foot gap usually means one source is counting only the social-event rooms and the other is counting the full meetings inventory. It does not change your day — but it does change which rooms you should ask to walk.

What we learned photographing a real wedding here

What a bayfront venue actually gives a photographer, and what it costs you:

• The hotel sits on the west shore of the bay, so its water views look east. That is the opposite problem from an oceanfront Miami Beach property. Here the sun sets behind the building, which means the last 40 minutes before sunset throws warm, soft front light onto a couple standing with the open bay behind them. You get lit faces and lit water in the same frame — you just will not get the sun itself in shot over the water. The downtown skyline sits south and west of the hotel and reads best after dark.
• Open water means open wind. Veils, loose florals and lightweight table settings all behave differently on the Bayfront Terrace than in a courtyard. Plan a hair-and-makeup touch-up after outdoor portraits, not before.
• Downtown makes logistics cheap. Being minutes from the Arts & Entertainment District and the MacArthur Causeway means guests are not committing to a 45-minute drive, and it means a second location is realistic if you want one.

Bayfront or oceanfront? How to choose

This is the real decision most Miami couples are making, and the honest answer is that it comes down to what time your ceremony is.

• Pick bayfront (Biscayne Bay) if your ceremony is late afternoon. Sheltered water, warm late light on the subject and a city skyline that switches on after dark. This venue looks east across the bay from the mainland shore; Rusty Pelican sits on the far side and looks back west at the skyline, which is the one that puts the sunset itself in frame.
• Pick oceanfront (Miami Beach) if you want morning or beach-first coverage. The Atlantic faces east, so the soft light is early. Eden Roc Miami Beach and The Palms Hotel & Spa are the archive examples.
• Pick historic/garden if you want architecture over horizon. Vizcaya, The Biltmore and The Kampong trade the open water for built detail.

None of these is better. They are different lighting problems, and a photographer who has worked all three will tell you which one matches the timeline you already have.

What to confirm with the hotel before you sign

• Which specific rooms and outdoor spaces are held for your date — Pool Deck, Bayfront Terrace, Hibiscus Island and San Marco Island are listed separately for a reason.
• The indoor rain-plan room, and whether it costs extra.
• Whether the Grand Ballroom is being sold to you whole or divided into salons.
• Getting-ready room access times, and whether a bayside-view room is available for morning coverage.
• Any outside-vendor fee for photography, and the load-in path from the garage.
