Maria and Randy were married at Palmettos on the Bayou in Slidell, Louisiana, a waterfront venue on Bayou Bonfouca. Acromatico, a family-run photography and brand studio working across South Florida and New York City since 2004, traveled to the New Orleans area to photograph this destination wedding for a longtime friend.
When Maria — a friend who became family — told Acromatico she was engaged and getting married in Louisiana, the answer was an immediate yes, and the studio headed to the New Orleans area to photograph the day. The destination wedding took place in Slidell, Louisiana, at Palmettos on the Bayou, a waterfront venue on Bayou Bonfouca set on the site of Roberts Landing and surrounded by Spanish moss, swamp, trees, and string lights. Guests came in from Georgia, Cleveland, Florida, and across the state to celebrate together over a long weekend.
One detail stood out: all of Maria's accessories represented her nieces and the pieces they wore on their own wedding days. The tiara has passed through generations of Maduri girls — Maria watched each of her nieces and her daughter marry in it, and now wore it herself, carrying a little piece of each of her favorite girls with her. A beautiful and emotional Louisiana wedding, ending happily ever after.
“Nothing says Louisiana more than this amazing venue surrounded by Spanish Moss, swamp, trees, string lights and more.”
Good to know
Palmettos on the Bayou is a waterfront wedding venue in Slidell, Louisiana, on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. Tammany Parish, about a 40-minute drive across the lake from downtown New Orleans. The venue sits on Bayou Bonfouca, on the historic site of Roberts Landing, where the marsh foliage, cypress, and Spanish moss create a natural outdoor backdrop. It is one of the most distinctly Louisiana settings for a ceremony — bayou, swamp, and string lights all in one place.
Because Slidell is so close to New Orleans, couples and out-of-town guests can combine a bayou wedding with everything the NOLA region offers. Spring and fall tend to be the most comfortable seasons for an outdoor waterfront event here, given the south Louisiana heat and humidity. For destination weddings in the area, plan for travel time around the lake and the realities of an outdoor swamp-adjacent setting — both of which are part of what makes Palmettos on the Bayou feel unmistakably Louisiana.
