The Mondestin family were Acromatico's contest winners, and they drove down from Jacksonville to celebrate a baby shower for their future baby boy. The maternity session was scheduled at Matheson Hammock Park, but Hurricane Sandy flooded the entire bay area beforehand.
It worked out well thanks to a beautiful sunny day and the green backgrounds at the park. Acromatico, a family-run photography and brand studio founded in 2004 and working across South Florida and New York City, loved working with the Mondestin family and shared a few favorites from the day.
“We schedule the session at the Matheson Hammock Park but unfortunately Sandy flooded the entire bay area but it worked out pretty well because of the beautiful sunny day and green backgrounds at the park!”
Good to know
Matheson Hammock Park is a Miami-Dade County park in Coral Gables, Florida, set along Biscayne Bay just south of downtown Miami. It is one of the oldest parks in the county, known for its man-made atoll pool that fills and drains with the tides, its dense tropical hardwood hammock, and mangrove shorelines that open onto the bay.
The mix of green hammock backdrops, palm-lined paths, and open bay views makes it a versatile setting for maternity, family, and portrait sessions. Because the park sits directly on Biscayne Bay, its low-lying areas can flood during tropical storms and high tides, as happened around the Mondestin session during Hurricane Sandy, so it helps to plan sessions around weather and tide conditions.
